Electrified Flexible Industry is Sweden's largest initiative within the Advanced Digitalization programme. The project brings together nearly 50 partners from industry, energy companies, electricity network operators, academia and innovation organisations to develop solutions that enable smarter electricity use, unlock grid capacity and create a more flexible energy system.
The project addresses one of the greatest challenges of the energy transition: industrial electrification is progressing faster than the expansion of the electricity grid. To enable continued electrification, new ways of controlling, shifting, sharing and storing energy are needed.
What does the project aim to achieve?
Electrified Flexible Industry aims to make industry an active participant in the energy system—not just a consumer of electricity.
The project will:
- strengthen industrial competitiveness through advanced digitalisation
- reduce peak electricity demand and release grid capacity
- improve the energy efficiency of industrial processes
- enable energy sharing and smart energy management
- develop new business models and forms of collaboration between industry and electricity network operators
- create scalable solutions that can be implemented across Sweden
Glava Energy Center's role
Glava Energy Center is responsible for coordinating the demonstration environments in Värmland and Jönköping, where industrial companies, energy companies and electricity network operators jointly develop and validate solutions in real industrial environments.
Demonstrations in real industrial environments
The project's development work takes place directly in factories, industrial clusters and energy facilities across Sweden.
The demonstrations include:

- automated flexibility control

- local energy storage and smart control

National Digital Twin
A key component of the project is the development of a National Digital Twin for industrial energy systems.
The Digital Twin enables technical solutions, market models and regulatory frameworks to be simulated and validated before they are implemented in real-world environments. This accelerates innovation while reducing implementation risks.

Electrified Flexible Industry
An industrial operation that can adapt its electricity consumption to the availability of electricity and the capacity of the power grid. Through smart control, energy storage and production planning, companies can use electricity more efficiently, reduce stress on the grid and maintain competitive production.
